When you have a long night of gaming ahead of you, you want a proper hearty meal to keep you going, and that’s precisely what we got for you here: the dinner of champions.
Shepherd’s Pie
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes
- 1 large egg
- 500g/1lb beef mince
- 2 rashers of bacon
- 1 onion
- 3 tablespoons of tomato sauce/ketchup
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 beef stock cube
- 1 ½ cup of frozen mixed vegetables
- Cheese for topping
Equipment
- Oven
- Baking tin
- Baking/parchment paper
- Stove top/hob
Method
- Wash, peel and roughly cut up the potatoes, and boil them in a saucepan until cooked.
- Drain the potatoes and mash them up.
- When they are a bit cooled, mix in the egg and season with salt and pepper
- Cut up your bacon and fry it and the beef in a frying pan
- Chop up the onion and add that into the frying pan along with the tomato sauce/ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and mustard
- Dissolve the stock cube in ½ cup of boiling water and add that in to the meat with the mixed vegetables and cook it all together for a couple of minutes
- Put the meat and vege mix into baking tin and top with the mashed potatoes and cheese
- Cook for about 20 minutes and serve hot
Banana Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cups self raising flour (or 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder)
- Pinch of salt
- 170g butter
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs (3 if they are small)
- 80g yoghurt
- 2 cups mashed up bananas
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Equipment
- Oven
- Baking tin (approx 22cmx12cm/9”x5”)
- Baking/parchment paper
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180C/350F.
- Line a baking tin with baking/parchment paper.
- Cream together the butter and sugar
- Add in eggs one at a time and mix thoroughly
- Mix in the yoghurt, bananas and vanilla
- Add in the dry ingredients and mix through, but don’t overmix
- Pour the mix into your baking tin and bake for 30 minutes
- Check the centre of the banana bread with a knife or skewer, if it’s still wet, bake for another 10 minutes and check again
After the banana bread is baked, you can freeze it for up to 3 months.
